Automobile insurance company
Saturday, July 31, 2010 11:54Everyone needs auto insurance, but often finding the right auto insurance company can be hard. It is often hard to choose between cheap prices, and quality. If you can afford it, I would opt for quality.
When choosing your auto insurance company, the first resources I would use are your friends and family. Ask everyone you know what auto insurance company they have, what they pay, and how they like it. If you have the money, you should opt for quality service and quick claims instead of cheap prices. Ask if any of your friends have actually been in a wreck and filed a claim. If they have, ask them how it went, if the insurance company paid for all of it, and how quickly it was handled. The way an auto insurance company handles claims is very important. Many companies will resist paying claims until they have gathered a lot of information, or even investigated the accident themselves. The last thing you want is to be stuck without a car for weeks on end while your insurance company slowly goes through all the procedures. You need an auto insurance company that will pay your claims quick, without too much hesitation, so you can get back on the road!
The second thing I would do when choosing an auto insurance company, is request quotes. Quotes are free and they provide you with an accurate estimate of what you will be paying for insurance. You should get quotes from many different auto insurance companies, maybe 3-5. Compare the rates, as well as the features. However, keep in mind that price is not everything. Use the feedback you received from your friends, as well as the price, to make your decision. If one of your friends had a major problem with their insurance companies, avoid that company, even if it the cheapest.
Another thing you should check for when choosing an auto insurance company is the price of the deductable. Many companies offer cheap rates, but jack up the price of the deductable until it is almost unaffordable. A deductable is the portion of car repairs that insurance companies will not pay. Deductibles can be very affordable, or very expensive. Usually, the lower the premium the more the deductable will be, and vice versa.
You should shop around before you make any definite decisions. Insurance is an important thing, and it can be quite a hassle to change auto insurance companies. Use all possible resources including friends, insurance agents, websites, etc, before making your decision. Once you have made your decision, reconsider it. I know this seems like a lot of work, but the purchase of car insurance is just as important, if not more important, than the purchase of the actual car!
Keep in mind that once you do select your auto insurance company, you do not necessarily have to stay with them. Most insurance companies do not require you to stay with them for a designated period of time. If you find that insurance with another company would be cheaper, consider changing.
When choosing your auto insurance company I would check out the popular insurance agencies first. Most of the time the major companies will be more reliable than small companies. The big name insurers such as State Farm, Allstate, etc, are always good choices as they have been in business for quite a while, and they are not the type of business that would flat out refuse to pay a valid claim. I know it is good to support small companies, but when it comes to insurance, I would use a large company.

It is illegal, as well as very dangerous, to drive uninsured. Everyone needs auto car insurance, regardless of what they drive. Even if you consider your car to be an “old beater”, you still need auto car insurance. Why? Because uninsured drivers involved in wrecks are not only required to pay for their own car, but also the other cars involved in the accident.
